SAVE THE FISHIES! Key Questions

Key Questions

1) What are the causes of water pollution?
Improper discharge of wastewater from households and industries such as people littering. Oil spills from ships also cause water pollution.

2) What can the government do?
To solve the problem of chemicals and litters being dumped, local governments need to strictly regulate and enforce laws against it. The health of future generations, the living creatures, and air and waste need to be protected.

3) What are the consequences if this continues?
It can endanger plants and the lives of animals, negative effect on human health and will also have economic loss. People can make to save the planet. If we don't, life on Earth could cease to exist!

4) How can people prevent this from happening?
Oil spills could mainly be prevented if ship captains were a little bit more aware of their surroundings and avoided big objects. People can stop littering and find rubbish bins instead, to throw their litter in. They should also dispose toxic chemicals properly. These problems can be solved by people being more careful, but unfortunately many people don't care about the earth or future generations.

5) What must people learn from this situation?
People should learn and realise that the Earth should be kept clean for health reasons, as well as to help the living things on the Earth, and to avoid water pollution.

6) How much waste is thrown in the seas per year?
80% of plastic waste in the sea originated on land, rather than being thrown overboard from boats. It's too many to count.

7) What are the items usually found in the seas?
Plastic bottles, sweet wrappers, cans and many other unwanted waste are found in the seas. These cause extinction of many species of living things and spoiling their habitat.

8) What can industries do?
Industries can find better ways to dispose their waste off rather than dumping it in our water sources. They can recycle, filter and treat it.
